One of the most distinctive features of the English language is its literature. Literature is the study of the literary texts, a composition that tells us a story of certain emotions which explores human experience and imagination. It also affords an insight into how rhetorical structures and metaphor shape everyone’s perception of the world. There are four genres of literature: -Fiction Prose: it includes short stories and novels. -Poetry: it includes poems with both closed form (rhymed poetry) and open form (free verse). – rama: it includes plays. -Non-fiction Prose: it includes essays, articles, news reports, etc. It is important to recognize some basic elements of literary works such as theme, plot, setting, characters and the writer’s point of view. These elements help the reader to analyze the literary text easily and reveal the hidden ideas between the lines. Also it is essential to know that each work contains literary devices that enrich the text, the means by which the author creates meaning through language such as metaphor, simile, irony, personification, symbolism, etc.
